Lionsgate Moves John Wick Animated Prequel Into Production
Lionsgate has given the animated John Wick feature the go-ahead, and Keanu Reeves has signed on to voice the assassin again. The company’s chief executive, Jon Feltheimer, said on November 5, 2026, that the film was in preproduction.
The prequel will revisit Wick’s past, focusing on the Impossible Task: a night in which he kills his rivals. Completing it allows him to leave his obligation to the High Table and pursue a life with Helen, the woman he loves.
Shannon Tindle, whose credits include Kubo and the Two Strings as well as Ultraman: Rising, will helm the project. Ryan and Kaz Firpo wrote the screenplay.
The producing team includes Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee of Thunder Road, Chad Stahelski of 87Eleven Entertainment, and Reeves. Point Grey is also joining the project.
The John Wick franchise has earned more than $1 billion worldwide across five films, with Ballerina, a spinoff starring Ana de Armas, among them. Lionsgate is also developing a fifth live-action John Wick movie and a standalone film centered on Caine, the blind assassin played by Donnie Yen.
