The Odyssey Returns to North American Theaters in December
Universal will bring The Odyssey back to North American cinemas on December 11, with screenings planned in more than 1,000 theaters. The release will include Imax and Imax 70mm presentations. The film becomes available for home viewing through Premium VOD and on 4K and DVD on November 17.
The movie, starring Matt Damon as Odysseus, has earned $626 million in North America and $1.8 billion worldwide. Its international total has reached $1.175 billion, and it continues to screen in overseas markets. It recently overtook Furious 7, making it Universal’s most successful international release.
The film opened on July 17 and became Nolan’s highest-grossing movie. It is also Universal’s top-grossing film worldwide, the highest-grossing R-rated movie globally and Imax’s biggest film. Its opening set records for Nolan internationally and worldwide, and for Imax 70mm domestically.
The Odyssey was the first narrative feature filmed entirely with Imax cameras. It ranks as the 10th highest-grossing film from the Motion Picture Association globally and is second among 2026 releases, behind Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The December return comes as awards season gathers pace; the film is expected to contend in multiple Academy Award categories, including best picture.
