David Lynch-Backed Thriller Hyena Sets 2027 Production Start
Hyena will begin filming in Spokane in early 2027, with Shipka and Woon-A-Tai taking the lead roles. They replace previously announced cast members Archie Madekwe and Havana Rose Liu. Ramírez and DeWitt are also joining the film, which is among the final projects executive-produced by David Lynch, who died in January 2025.
Shipka plays Genevieve, who introduces her mysterious boyfriend Alexei, played by Woon-A-Tai, to her family. As Alexei becomes increasingly involved with them, buried secrets and tensions surface. Genevieve comes to be the only family member who recognizes the danger, and protecting her family will require a devastating sacrifice.
Scott Coffey is directing from a script he wrote with novelist Blair Mastbaum. Coffey acted in Lynch’s Mulholland Drive, and Lynch mentored him and took part in Hyena’s early development. David Lancaster and Jeff Elliott are producing; Lancaster is also an executive producer. Sales representatives Upgrade and WME Independent plan to present the film to prospective buyers at the American Film Market.
