Dallas Police Arrest Suspect in Deep Ellum Shooting
Yancy was arrested on the evening of November 4 at his apartment in Garland and booked into Dallas County jail. He is charged with seven aggravated-assault offenses stemming from a mass attack. Authorities said he surrendered; investigators identified him using edited surveillance video that police released on November 4. They said he is a convicted felon and fired 11 rounds into a crowd.
The shooting happened around 1 a.m. Sunday in a parking lot near a 7-Eleven on Main Street. Witnesses told investigators a man in red ran into the lot, drew a handgun and fired toward a man dressed in dark clothing, prompting a shootout. Seven people were hit, with injuries that included wounds to the hands, feet, shoulders, torso and pelvis.
It was the second of three distinct shootings in Deep Ellum within about 75 minutes. The other two left four people dead and several others wounded. Those killed were 25-year-old Anthony Tyrone Martin; 20-year-old Isaiah Boling; 28-year-old Unique Elise Benjamin; and 21-year-old Kaniesa Scott. Across the three shootings, four people died and at least 15 were wounded.
On November 5, authorities said they suspect two or three additional people had a role in the separate attacks. Dallas police and federal officials have also launched Operation Deep Cover, a multi-agency effort involving increased police presence, federal investigative support and possible federal prosecutions in gun violence cases in Deep Ellum.
