Robbins and Esposito Join Apple’s Monsterverse Series

Tim Robbins and Giancarlo Esposito have joined Apple TV’s upcoming Monsterverse series as guest stars. They will appear alongside Wyatt Russell, who returns as a younger version of Col. Lee Shaw, the character he portrays in the Monarch series, Legacy of Monsters. The casting was announced on November 5, and details about Robbins’ and Esposito’s roles have not been disclosed.

The story follows Shaw in 1984, when the American operative undertakes a mission behind enemy lines to prevent the Soviets from unleashing a new Titan. The creature is described as powerful enough to devastate the United States and shift the balance of the Cold War.

The cast named earlier features Stana Katic, Connie Nielsen, Nyasha Hatendi, Ralph Ineson, Corey Stoll, Pilou Asbaek and Millie Brady. Joby Harold is developing and showrunning the series, with executive producer credits shared by Harold and Tory Tunnell of Safehouse Pictures, Russell and others. JD Dillard is also a director and executive producer. Toho executives Hiro Matsuoka and Takemasa Arita are executive producers; Toho owns the Godzilla character.

Robbins also stars in Apple TV’s Silo and won an Academy Award for Mystic River. Esposito’s television credits include Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. The series remains untitled.
