Jalen Hurts Visits Eagles Facility While Recovering From Blood Clots

Hurts attended several meetings at the Eagles’ facility, in what teammates described as a morale boost. It was the first time some had seen him since his diagnosis. Coach Nick Sirianni said he remained in touch with Hurts, who was resting and recovering, but had no new update on his condition. Sirianni said he missed the quarterback and that the team was praying for his recovery.

Hurts last played in Philadelphia’s 19-17 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in London in Week 5. A scan before that game found a clot in his left calf, after he had been injured the previous week. A follow-up ultrasound later showed deep vein thrombosis and blood clots in both lungs. The Eagles ruled him out against Carolina in Week 6 and placed him on injured reserve.

Hurts is expected to need at least three months to recover while taking blood-thinning medication. A return during the playoffs is possible in the best-case scenario, but Philadelphia has lost six straight games and has a 2-6 record. The NFL concluded the team had not violated protocols in its handling of his condition.

The Eagles went 0-3 with Tanner McKee at quarterback and have chosen reserve quarterback Joe Milton III to start in Sunday’s home matchup against the Giants. Acquired last month, Milton will make his first career start in three seasons. Sirianni praised Milton’s work ethic and progress.
