Fan Throws Ball at Referee During Lakers-Kings Game

The incident occurred late in the third quarter at Golden 1 Center. After Lakers forward Jarred Vanderbilt blocked Malik Monk’s shot, the loose ball went out of bounds and landed with a fan sitting near the Lakers’ bench.

Lakers players and an official were signaling that the ball belonged to Los Angeles when the fan threw it with both hands toward Painter. She bounced the ball toward the floor, and no one was physically hurt.

Luka Dončić pointed toward the fan and challenged his actions. “I was just asking him what the hell is he doing?” he said afterward. Video taken by another spectator appeared to show Dončić also asking, “What is wrong with you, man?”

Security escorted the fan away from his seat with 2:35 remaining in the quarter. Play then resumed. The Lakers went on to win 116-103.
