Bomb Alert Diverts Dublin-Rome Flight to French Air Base

Aer Lingus flight EI402, travelling from Dublin to Rome, was diverted to Évreux-Fauville Air Base in Normandy on November 5 after French officials received a bomb alert. The airline said the diversion was a security precaution and that the plane landed safely.

Flight-tracking data showed the Airbus A320 descending and making several loops after it had been flying west of Paris. French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu’s office said it was monitoring the situation.

The diversion came amid a series of bomb threats affecting flights in Europe this week. Including the Aer Lingus flight, at least nine flights were targeted, prompting diversions and the temporary closure of an airport in Poland. Authorities in various countries have found no explosive devices in those incidents.

A bomb threat also prompted a security operation at the Greek port of Syros on Tuesday, after an unknown person claimed an explosive had been attached to the hull of a cruise ship bound for Israel. Authorities have not identified who was behind the threats, and there have been no claims of responsibility.
