Glenn Close Says Overnight Wrinkle Patches Help Smooth Fine Lines

At a November 2 Manhattan event celebrating season two of All’s Fair, Glenn Close talked about using Frownies facial patches to help smooth fine lines. The 79-year-old actress said she wears the paper stickers while sleeping and endorsed the method with a brief verdict: “It works.”

The patches are sold in two shapes: one for the forehead and the area between the brows, and another for the outer corners of the eyes and around the mouth. They are intended for overnight use, limiting facial movement that can contribute to lines. Close joked that users may frown again after waking, but at least the patches keep them from doing so in their sleep.

Close had also shown a patch on her forehead in an Instagram video on October 20, saying she wore it while working at her desk because she tends to frown. The product has a long history: it was invented in 1899, and its founder’s daughters promoted it to performers and others in the entertainment business during the 1930s.

Other celebrities have been associated with the patches, including Kris Jenner. The stickers were also mentioned in Raquel Welch’s 2010 memoir, and actress Dixie Dunbar was pictured wearing them in Life magazine in 1937.
