Father and Two Children Die in Mount Lebanon Garage Fall

Emergency crews found Patrick Lynch and his two children near a parking garage in Mount Lebanon, a suburb south of Pittsburgh, at about 4:15 p.m. on November 3. Responders attempted to revive all three, but they were pronounced dead at the scene from injuries consistent with a fall, the county medical examiner’s office said.

Allegheny County police said preliminary information indicated a murder-suicide. Mount Lebanon Police Chief Jason Haberman said investigators were treating the deaths as a criminal matter, not an accident. The circumstances leading to the fall have not been detailed in the information provided by authorities.

Haberman said the deaths would have a profound effect on the community, where many residents would know someone connected to the incident. A neighbor told a local television station that he had spoken with the person who called 911 after arriving at the scene.

The Mount Lebanon School District announced that Markham and Washington grade schools were set to shut on November 4. Students at other district schools could stay home with absences excused, and counselors would be available to support students. The district said it was grieving the deaths and thinking of those affected.
