Harvie Defeats Fitzpatrick in Pennsylvania’s First District
Bucks County Commissioner Bob Harvie defeated Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick in Pennsylvania’s 1st Congressional District on November 3, flipping the seat from Republican to Democratic control. The race was called on November 4.
With 94% of ballots counted, Harvie had 52.6% of the vote and Fitzpatrick had 47.4%. Earlier Tuesday night, Harvie held a lead, but the race had not yet been called.
The district was a key battleground in the contest for control of the U.S. House. It was one of two districts held by Republicans that Kamala Harris won in the 2024 presidential election.
Fitzpatrick, a centrist who had won reelection by 13 percentage points two years earlier, had also publicly disagreed with President Donald Trump on several occasions.
