Goodlander’s Reelection Keeps New Hampshire’s 2nd District Democratic
Voters in New Hampshire’s 2nd Congressional District reelected Democratic Rep. Maggie Goodlander on November 3, returning her to the House for a second term. The race was called at 11:05 p.m. Republican Lily Tang Williams and independent Robbie Mahrou also sought the seat.
Goodlander’s district includes Nashua and Concord and covers much of the western part of the state. It is generally considered Democratic-leaning, a pattern that persisted in the contest. Goodlander first won the seat in 2024, defeating Tang Williams by 53% to 47%.
During her first term, Goodlander drew national attention as one of six Democratic lawmakers in a video urging military personnel to refuse illegal orders. The Trump administration responded by seeking indictments of the lawmakers. Her reelection keeps in office a Democrat whose public profile has included a direct clash with the administration.
Tang Williams presented herself to voters as a defender of freedom and warned about socialism and communism. Republican voters who supported her praised her understanding of public concerns and her outspoken campaign. But the district chose Goodlander, extending her tenure as its representative.
Goodlander Holds Seat as Tang Williams’s Freedom Message Falls Short
Democratic Rep. Maggie Goodlander won another term in New Hampshire’s 2nd Congressional District on November 3, defeating Republican Lily Tang Williams and independent Robbie Mahrou. The race was called at 11:05 p.m., leaving the Democratic incumbent in a seat generally viewed as favorable to her party.
Tang Williams campaigned as a defender of freedom and spoke of the dangers of socialism and communism. She came to the United States after fleeing communist rule in China, and supporters praised her as passionate and in touch with voters. That message did not carry her to victory in the district, which includes Concord and Nashua.
Goodlander’s first term included a high-profile dispute with the Trump administration. She was among six Democratic lawmakers who appeared in a video urging military personnel to refuse illegal orders; the administration sought to indict them. Her win gives her another term after that confrontation.
The result repeats the outcome of the 2024 contest, when Goodlander first won the seat with 53% of the vote to Tang Williams’s 47%. Independent Robbie Mahrou also ran this year but trailed well behind in polling and the vote tally.
