Malliotakis wins another term in New York’s 11th District
Nicole Malliotakis has won reelection to represent New York’s 11th Congressional District, defeating Democratic challenger Mike DeCillis in a race that drew attention to local protests over her positions and votes.
With more than 82% of scanners reporting at 9:30 p.m., unofficial results showed Malliotakis with 91,539 votes, or 57%, and DeCillis with 69,915, or 43%. The district includes all of Staten Island and parts of southern Brooklyn, and is New York City’s only Republican-held congressional seat.
Malliotakis first won the seat in 2020, defeating then-incumbent Democrat Max Rose. She beat Rose again in 2022 and defeated Democrat Andrea Morse in 2024. Republicans have held the district since 2013 except for Rose’s term from 2019 to 2021.
Malliotakis has highlighted federal funding for district programs and infrastructure and tax cuts she says help Staten Islanders. During the campaign, she also focused on utility costs. She supports President Donald Trump and voted for the “Big Beautiful Bill,” which included cuts to Medicare, Medicaid and food assistance.
That vote, along with her support for ICE, prompted protests outside her Brooklyn office. Advocates also held recurring demonstrations at her Staten Island office. DeCillis said those protests helped motivate his campaign, and he and his backers hoped public discontent with Trump and his policies would carry him to victory. It did not.
Malliotakis wins despite protests over cuts and ICE support
Nicole Malliotakis has won another term representing New York’s 11th Congressional District, despite sustained protests over her vote for a bill that cut funding for health care and food assistance and her support for ICE.
With more than 82% of scanners reporting at 9:30 p.m., unofficial results gave Malliotakis 57% of the vote, or 91,539 votes. Democrat Mike DeCillis received 43%, or 69,915. The district spans Staten Island and parts of southern Brooklyn, and is the city’s only Republican congressional seat.
Malliotakis backed President Donald Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill,” which included cuts to Medicare, Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. Constituents protested for months outside her Brooklyn office over those cuts and her support for ICE; advocates also organized recurring demonstrations outside her Staten Island office.
DeCillis said the grassroots protests helped inspire his run. He and his supporters hoped anger over Trump and his policies would deliver a victory in a district that Democrats have struggled to reclaim. The result showed that the protests and opposition to Malliotakis’ votes were not enough to unseat her.
Malliotakis has emphasized federal funding for local programs and infrastructure, tax cuts she says benefit Staten Islanders, and the burden of rising utility costs. She first won the seat in 2020 and has held it through three reelection campaigns.
Malliotakis holds New York’s lone Republican House seat
Nicole Malliotakis has secured another term in New York’s 11th Congressional District, holding the city’s lone Republican House seat as Democrats sought to turn opposition to President Donald Trump into an electoral breakthrough.
Unofficial results, with more than 82% of scanners reporting at 9:30 p.m., showed Malliotakis leading Democrat Mike DeCillis 91,539 votes to 69,915, a 57%-43% margin. The district covers Staten Island and parts of southern Brooklyn.
Democrats and DeCillis’ supporters hoped protests and public anger over Trump’s policies would shift the district. Demonstrators gathered outside Malliotakis’ offices in Brooklyn and Staten Island, criticizing her support for ICE and her vote for the “Big Beautiful Bill,” which included cuts to Medicare, Medicaid and food assistance. DeCillis said the local protest movement helped prompt his candidacy, but it did not produce a win.
Malliotakis has made the case for her record by pointing to federal money for district programs and infrastructure and tax cuts she says benefit Staten Islanders. She also made rising utility bills and energy expenses a campaign focus.
The victory continues a Republican hold that began in 2013, apart from Democrat Max Rose’s 2019-2021 term. Malliotakis first won the seat in 2020, then defeated Rose in 2022 and Democrat Andrea Morse in 2024.
