Lucy McBath wins fifth term in Georgia’s 6th District
Lucy McBath won reelection to the U.S. House on November 3, defeating Republican Kevin Martin in Georgia’s 6th Congressional District. The victory gives the Democrat a fifth term in Congress and keeps her in the seat representing parts of metro Atlanta’s northern and northeastern suburbs.
McBath, a gun-control advocate, first won election to Congress in 2018, beating Republican Karen Handel in the 6th District. She remained there until redistricting moved her and fellow Democrat Carolyn Bourdeaux into the 7th District in 2023.
McBath then defeated Bourdeaux for the 7th District seat. Two years later, another redistricting change placed McBath back in the 6th District, where she has now secured reelection. Her latest win returns her to Congress from the district where her House career began.
Gun-control advocate McBath wins another term in Congress
Democrat Lucy McBath’s reelection keeps a gun-control advocate in Congress for a fifth term. She defeated Republican Kevin Martin on November 3 in metro Atlanta’s 6th Congressional District, extending her representation of the area’s northern and northeastern suburbs.
McBath first won the district in 2018, defeating Republican Karen Handel. Redistricting shifted her into the 7th District in 2023, where she beat fellow Democrat Carolyn Bourdeaux for the seat. A later map change moved McBath back to the 6th, and voters have now returned her to the district where she began her House career.
The result preserves McBath’s place in Congress and the voice of a lawmaker identified with gun control. Her path through two districts reflects repeated redistricting, but voters in the 6th have now chosen her to serve another term.
McBath returns to Congress after another district shift
Lucy McBath’s reelection gives Democrats another term for a gun-control advocate in Congress. She beat Republican Kevin Martin on November 3 in Georgia’s 6th District, retaining her seat in the metro Atlanta suburbs.
McBath first won the 6th District in 2018, defeating Republican Karen Handel. Redistricting moved her into the 7th District in 2023, where she defeated fellow Democrat Carolyn Bourdeaux. Another map change later returned McBath to the 6th, where she has now won again.
The result keeps McBath in Washington for a fifth term despite the shifts between districts. Her advocacy on gun control will remain part of her congressional profile, while Republican Kevin Martin’s defeat leaves the seat with a Democrat. The district’s repeated boundary changes shaped McBath’s route to this reelection, but the outcome is clear: she will represent the 6th District again.
