BAFTA Names 21 Creatives to Its 2026 Breakthrough Cohort
On November 3, BAFTA named 21 emerging U.K. creatives for its 2026 Breakthrough cohort, spanning film, television, documentary and unscripted work, and games. The scheme, now in its 13th year, is intended for people approaching or experiencing a career breakthrough in the screen industries.
The selected television performers include Ella Bruccoleri, known for “The Other Bennet Sister,” Izuka Hoyle of “Prisoner,” and Sophie Stone of “Falling.” Film honorees include “Ish” co-writer and director Imran Perretta, “The Incomer” writer-director Louis Paxton and “A Want in Her” filmmaker Myrid Carten. The list also features “Emmerdale” writer Yassmin Abdel-Magied and documentary producer and reporter Runako Celina.
Among the five games creatives are “The Pirate Queen: No Safe Waters” writer-director Eloise Singer, “Rogue Eclipse” game director Husban Siddiqi and “Pieced Together” creative director Kate Killick. Other honorees work in casting, production design, presenting, producing, writing and performance.
Participants receive career guidance, individual meetings, networking opportunities and BAFTA membership. BAFTA chief executive Jane Millichip said the program connects creative talent with support to help build lasting careers. Netflix, which has supported the initiative for seven consecutive years, links its backing to its Generation N effort for emerging and mid-career U.K. talent.
More than 330 creatives have taken part globally since the program began, with alumni including Florence Pugh, Tom Holland and Jessie Buckley. Participants have accumulated more than 200 BAFTA nominations and over 80 wins. BAFTA North America is expected to name its U.S. cohort later in November.
