Trump Declares Election Week Anti-Communism Week

Trump’s proclamation calls on Americans to defend the country’s way of life against communism and warns that communist and socialist ideologies threaten individual freedom and rights. It says the week is intended to honor people harmed by socialist and communist rule abroad and urges vigilance against those ideologies.

The declaration came on Election Day, with results from the midterms beginning to arrive and Republicans seeking to prevent Democrats from retaking the House and Senate. Trump has accused some Democratic candidates of being socialists or communists, including Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El Sayed.

The proclamation says the United States will not become a communist country under Trump’s leadership. Trump also issued an Anti-Communism Week proclamation in 2025 and sent messages on the subject in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020.

Several candidates in this year’s elections are affiliated with or backed by the Democratic Socialists of America, including candidates in New York, Colorado, Michigan and Pennsylvania. El Sayed has appeared at DSA events and received support from Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, but has denied being a socialist or DSA member. The proclamation designates the week through November 7.
