Cavan Sullivan Ranks Sixth in MLS Jersey Sales

Sullivan’s rise to sixth place puts the 16-year-old behind five stars known around the world: Antoine Griezmann, Lionel Messi, Thomas Müller, Son Heung-Min and Robert Lewandowski. The remaining spots in the top 10 went to Denis Bouanga, Luis Suárez, Hany Mukhtar and Rodrigo De Paul.

The Union forward moved up from 18th in last year’s rankings. He has scored 10 goals and provided 11 assists for Philadelphia this season, and also scored his first goal for the U.S. national team against Mexico. He is a homegrown player from the Philadelphia area, and his place on the local team has helped make him a prominent figure for Union supporters.

Sullivan’s ranking comes amid a list dominated by established international stars. Other young American prospects, including New York Red Bulls players Julian Hall and Adri Mehmeti, Orlando City’s Justin Ellis and New England’s Peyton Miller, did not make the top 10. The list also left out several U.S. players who featured in the national team’s World Cup squad, including Seattle’s Cristian Roldan.

The Union are preparing for the postseason after their final regular-season match against Toronto FC at Subaru Park on November 7. Sullivan is expected to leave for Europe in a year, so the playoff run offers Philadelphia a chance to build on his breakout season before his departure.
