Davidson Opens Season With 76-61 Win Over Washington State

Davidson opened its season with a 76-61 road win over Washington State in Pullman on November 2, extending its success against the Cougars after beating them the previous season. The Wildcats made 12 three-pointers, while Washington State hit five of 24 attempts from beyond the arc.

Brown led all scorers with 22 points, shooting 8 for 13 overall and 6 for 10 from three-point range. Janowski added 21 points on 8-for-10 shooting, including three three-pointers, and Josh Scovens scored 17. Davidson took the lead with 9:29 left in the first half and went into halftime ahead 34-22.

Washington State played without projected offensive leader Ronnie Harrison, who was sidelined after experiencing ankle soreness during morning shootaround. Jaylen Harrell led the Cougars with 13 points, while Jamari Phillips scored 11 and Dominik Robinson had 10.

Harrell helped spark a 10-0 Washington State run in the second half, scoring five points as the Cougars trimmed the deficit. Davidson ended a scoring drought of more than four minutes, and Washington State did not get closer than nine points. Cougars coach Riley said the team’s offense became stagnant and players failed to move on to the next action.

Robinson had 10 points, four rebounds and two assists in 23 minutes. Coach Riley gave him and other reserves longer stretches in the second half, citing their energy and decisiveness.
