Spurs Cruise Past Jazz for Fifth Straight Win

The Spurs controlled most of the game and won all four quarters, building a lead that reached 26 points. Utah briefly cut the gap to one in the second quarter, but San Antonio maintained its advantage and pulled away with a 35-20 third quarter. The Jazz have now lost five straight.

Harper finished with 17 points and eight assists. Stephon Castle scored 16, Keldon Johnson had 15, and Victor Wembanyama tallied 12 points, 11 boards and three rejections. De’Aaron Fox also scored 12. San Antonio had seven players reach double figures and held Utah below 100 points for the first time this season.

The Spurs scored 52 points in the paint and 26 on fast breaks. Utah’s Lauri Markkanen led the Jazz with 22 points and eight rebounds. The teams had the same number of total rebounds, but San Antonio’s defense limited Utah’s shooting and scoring chances.

Castle said the Spurs focused on sticking with what was working rather than easing up. Coach Mitch Johnson praised the team’s ball movement and said its defense was more connected, while acknowledging that Utah’s offensive rebounds were a problem. Keldon Johnson said the team still had room to improve.

The Spurs will host Dallas on Wednesday. Utah is scheduled to visit New Orleans that night.
