Michigan State Opens With 37-Point Win Over Quinnipiac
Michigan State began its season with a commanding home win, leading from the opening minutes and defeating Quinnipiac 96-59 on November 2. The Spartans opened a 14-point cushion with a 15-2 run and were ahead 52-24 at halftime. They stretched the margin to 40 in the second half despite a brief Quinnipiac push.
Jeremy Fears Jr. recorded 13 points and 11 assists, while Coen Carr added 12 points and eight rebounds. Kaleb Glenn, Kur Teng, Jordan Scott and Anton Bonke each scored 11. Bonke also collected 13 rebounds and blocked two shots, while Glenn made all five of his field-goal attempts.
Freshman Carlos Medlock Jr. supplied nine points and two assists in his first official college appearance. He missed four free throws. Michigan State’s defense and work on the offensive glass helped keep Quinnipiac from building momentum; the Bobcats committed 16 turnovers and had eight shots blocked.
Jesse McCulloch missed the game after suffering a minor concussion in practice. The Bobcats got 11 points from Tayeshawn Cunningham-Pemberton, while Nate Guerengomba contributed 10. The Bobcats entered the season with eight newcomers after four starters transferred.
