Flu Activity Rises Early in Southern and Western States
Flu activity remains low across the country overall, but the latest CDC report shows it is rising in many areas. Levels are higher than typically seen at this point in the year, with increases concentrated mainly in western and southern states.
The season is being described as unusually early. The CDC estimates that flu has already caused at least 1 million cases, 16,000 hospitalizations and 900 deaths.
Dr. Brenda Anosike of Children’s Hospital at Montefiore addressed questions about the flu activity. The information provided does not include details of her answers or a forecast for how the season may develop.
