Brandon Aiyuk Hires Drew Rosenhaus as He Pursues NFL Return
Aiyuk has not appeared in an NFL game since October 20, 2024, when he suffered serious knee injuries against the Kansas City Chiefs. The 28-year-old wide receiver has hired agent Drew Rosenhaus, who told ESPN’s Adam Schefter he is working to get Aiyuk back to playing in the league.
Aiyuk remains under contract with San Francisco, which retains his rights. The 49ers placed him on a reserve/left squad list after he stopped participating in team activities. Before any return to the field or potential transaction, he must seek reinstatement from the NFL.
The relationship between Aiyuk and the team deteriorated after his injury. San Francisco voided about $27 million in guaranteed money in July 2025, citing missed rehabilitation sessions and check-ins. Aiyuk later missed team activities and publicly criticized the organization. Coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch have said he will not play for the 49ers again.
Aiyuk recorded consecutive 1,000-yard seasons in 2022 and 2023. Across 69 career games, he has 294 receptions, 4,305 receiving yards and 25 touchdowns. The 49ers have previously tried to trade him, without success. His reinstatement would require the team to decide what to do with his rights, though reports differ on whether a trade or release would be the likelier outcome.
The NFL trade deadline is November 10. Rosenhaus’s hiring signals an effort to restart Aiyuk’s career, but a return depends first on league reinstatement and the 49ers’ decision.
