Tiger Woods to Design Private Golf Course on Long Island
On November 2, Tiger Woods announced that his TGR Design firm is working alongside The Armchair Collective on plans for a private golf club in Brookville, on Long Island’s Gold Coast. The project will replace the shuttered Tam O’Shanter Country Club with an 18-hole course designed by Woods and his team.
Plans also call for a 20,000-square-foot practice green, a facility for golf performance training, a clubhouse and cottages for members. Work to prepare the site and demolition are underway, while course construction is expected to start in 2027. The club’s name and design renderings are scheduled to be revealed that year.
The former club closed in 2021. A housing development proposed after the land was purchased in 2019 did not proceed after arsenic was found in the soil. The Armchair Collective bought the property in September.
Woods said he was excited to contribute to a region with a long tradition of golf-course architecture. He also recalled competing on Long Island, including at Bethpage Black, where he won the 2002 U.S. Open. Brookville Mayor Dan Serota described the project as an opportunity to bring Woods’s design team to the area.
Woods has designed courses in several countries, including Bluejack National in Texas, along with Payne’s Valley, located in Missouri, and El Cardonal, situated in Mexico. El Cardonal hosted a PGA Tour event in 2023, the first Woods-designed course to do so. The Long Island project adds to his work in golf course design, while questions about his return to competition remain separate from the announcement.
