Harbaugh Keeps McDaniel Calling Plays After Chargers’ Seventh Loss
The Chargers’ offense again failed to reach the end zone in their 24-9 loss to the Rams on November 1, extending the team’s losing streak to seven games. Harbaugh said McDaniel would remain the play-caller, despite mounting questions about the coordinator’s future.
Asked whether McDaniel would keep calling plays, Harbaugh answered yes, then declined to discuss the team’s issues. He said the Chargers were dedicated to fixing them and that he was focused on the game. Harbaugh also said he remained committed to working out what went wrong and maintaining the team’s belief.
Los Angeles’ nine points all came from kicker Cameron Dicker’s three field goals. In the final seconds of the first half, Justin Herbert’s 54-yard Hail Mary pass reached Ladd McConkey, who was stopped a yard short of the end zone.
Herbert completed 24 of 32 passes for 257 yards, with two interceptions and two sacks. The Chargers gained only 64 yards rushing. Kimani Vidal led the team with 23 yards on eight carries, while Omarion Hampton had 20 yards on nine attempts.
The Chargers entered the game ranked last in the NFL in scoring, averaging 14.1 points per game. They are set to face the Houston Texans in Week 9.
