Antonelli Becomes Formula 1’s Youngest Champion

Kimi Antonelli secured the Formula 1 world title during the Mexico City event on November 1, with four races still to come. The 20-year-old Mercedes driver finished third, enough to put him beyond the reach of his remaining title rivals, teammate George Russell and Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton. Max Verstappen won the race for Red Bull, with Hamilton second.

Antonelli’s title makes him the youngest champion in Formula 1 history, surpassing Sebastian Vettel, who was 23 when he won in 2010. He is also the first Italian to claim the championship since Alberto Ascari in 1953. Antonelli has won nine of the season’s 19 races and led the standings from the third round onward.

Russell began the season as a leading title contender and won the opening race in Australia, but Antonelli went on to establish a decisive advantage. Russell finished sixth in Mexico after a 10-second penalty related to a crash. Both he and Hamilton needed to win, alongside a poor finish for Antonelli, to keep their championship hopes alive. The remaining races will determine the other positions in the standings, where Russell, Hamilton, Verstappen and Charles Leclerc are in contention for second.
