Powerball Jackpot Reaches $793 Million After Halloween Drawing
The Powerball jackpot climbed to an estimated $793 million after no ticket matched all six numbers in the October 31 drawing. The prize is the second-largest jackpot of the year and will be up for grabs in the November 2 drawing.
The jackpot has gone unwon through 34 consecutive drawings in its current cycle. The last winning ticket was sold in Illinois on August 12; reports give the prize as $1.04 billion and $1.4 billion.
A winner choosing the cash option would receive an estimated $340 million before federal taxes. The odds of hitting the jackpot are about 1 in 292 million; the odds of winning any Powerball prize are 1 in 24.9.
The Powerball and Mega Millions jackpots together are estimated at $1.275 billion. Mega Millions is set to draw on November 3, with an estimated jackpot of $482 million.
