Teen Escapes Baltimore Basement After Alleged Stabbing
Surveillance footage shows the girl running from a basement property on Garrison Boulevard at 8:52 p.m., 43 minutes after she arrived with Barrie, 23. Police later discovered her hurt in the 3800 block of Belle Avenue. Charging documents say she had injuries to her torso, ear, shoulder, back and rib cage, and a collapsed lung.
The girl told investigators Barrie began driving away from the destination she had requested, then restrained her in the car and took her into the property. She said he pushed her into a small room and ordered her to silence her phone and stay quiet. According to the charging documents, he stabbed her during a struggle. She scratched and clawed at him, then struck him with a fire extinguisher and escaped barefoot and without clothes.
The homeowner, who rented Barrie a basement room, gave the footage to police after reviewing it. One account of the footage noted that the girl appears to walk into the home behind Barrie, while her account is that he forced her inside. The homeowner said Barrie had asked earlier that day about accessing the security cameras, claiming his wallet had been stolen.
Barrie was arrested on October 24 and accused of trying to commit first-degree murder and kidnapping. DHS says he entered the United States from Sierra Leone in 2023, was arrested by Border Patrol and released, then was arrested in New York in July on a forged-instrument charge. The agency says New York officials did not honor an ICE detainer at that time. ICE lodged another detainer after Barrie’s Baltimore arrest. DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin blamed sanctuary policies and the Biden administration’s border policies for the case.
Immigration Enforcement Failures Left a Teen Facing Alleged Attack
A teenage girl’s escape from a Baltimore basement is now being used to attack sanctuary policies, but the case also raises questions about how immigration enforcement operates across jurisdictions. The 15-year-old said Abubakarr Barrie took her to a home on October 22, stabbed her during a struggle and was beaten back with a fire extinguisher before she fled.
Surveillance footage places her flight at 8:52 in the evening, 43 minutes after she and Barrie reached the property. Police later found her injured, with injuries to her torso, ear, shoulder, back and rib cage and a collapsed lung, charging documents say. Barrie was arrested on October 24 and accused of trying to commit first-degree murder and kidnapping; the charges are allegations.
DHS says Barrie entered the United States from Sierra Leone in 2023 and was released after Border Patrol arrested him. The agency says he was arrested in New York in July on a forged-instrument charge and that officials there did not honor an ICE detainer. ICE lodged a new detainer after his Baltimore arrest.
The facts are grave, but blaming sanctuary policies does not answer broader questions about how the earlier arrest and detainer were handled. The homeowner’s video also appears to show the girl walking behind Barrie into the home, while her account is that he forced her inside. The investigation and criminal case will determine what happened; the political claims do not replace that process.
New York’s Sanctuary Policies Failed Before Alleged Baltimore Attack
The alleged attack on a 15-year-old in Baltimore has exposed the stakes of refusing to cooperate with federal immigration authorities. The girl said Abubakarr Barrie took her to a basement property, stabbed her during a struggle and was driven off with a fire extinguisher before she escaped.

Police found her injured, with injuries to her torso, ear, shoulder, back and rib cage and a collapsed lung, charging documents say. DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin said the case showed failures of sanctuary policies and criticized the Biden administration’s border policies. Those policies deserve scrutiny when federal officials say a person arrested in one state was later accused of a violent crime in another. The homeowner’s footage appears to show the girl walking behind Barrie into the home, while her account is that he forced her inside; the criminal case will address the allegations.
