Hidalgo Leads Notre Dame Past Villanova in Rome
Hannah Hidalgo opened her senior season with a standout performance as No. 13 Notre Dame defeated Villanova 99-75 in Rome on November 1. The guard finished with 32 points, handed out eight assists, collected seven rebounds and made three steals.
One of her defensive plays came in the first half, when she jumped to intercept a pass, then leapt again near the sideline to keep the ball in play before passing to a teammate. Notre Dame pulled away after a close first quarter.
Leah Macy scored 27 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in her Notre Dame debut. She missed last season after a knee injury in high school. Madison St. Rose, making her first appearance for the Irish after transferring from Princeton, added 17 points, including four three-pointers.
Jasmin Bascoe led Villanova with 26 points. She made one of seven attempts from beyond the three-point line. Notre Dame also won the men’s game at the Eternal City Tip-Off. The event included an audience with Pope Leo XIV for the teams and their fans on Saturday.
Notre Dame is scheduled to host Stonehill on Friday. Villanova’s next game is at Princeton on November 10.
