Chris Murphy Hospitalized After Stroke at Son’s Hockey Game
Murphy, 53, began feeling numbness in his arm during his son’s hockey game on October 31. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where medical staff concluded he had experienced a stroke, his chief of staff, Allison Herwitt, said on November 1. He was then transferred to Johns Hopkins for further monitoring.
Herwitt said Murphy was awake and alert, responding well to treatment, and making progress. His doctors were encouraged, she said, and his team was optimistic he would recover fully.
The Connecticut Democrat has represented the state in the Senate since 2013. Though he is not running in this year’s midterms, he has been campaigning for Democratic candidates around the country. Murphy was due to appear at political events in New Hampshire on November 1, including an appearance with Democratic Senate nominee Chris Pappas.
