Michael Mann Treated After Accidental Gun Range Injury
On October 31, Michael Mann was injured when a firearm discharged as he was holstering it during practice at a Los Angeles shooting facility. The 83-year-old director received care at a hospital and was expected to leave on November 1, his representative said. The injury was described as superficial.
Los Angeles police said officers responded at about 4 p.m. to a report of shots fired at the range. Their investigation determined the shooting was accidental, and Mann was transported to a hospital in stable condition. The range was identified as The Range LA.
Mann has directed films including Heat, Thief, Collateral and Ferrari, his most recent film as director. He is developing Heat 2, drawn from the book he co-authored alongside Meg Gardiner. The follow-up is expected to begin filming early next year, and its reported cast includes Leonardo DiCaprio and Christian Bale.
