Woman Killed by LAPD Cruiser Responding to Halloween Party
A Los Angeles police officer answering an urgent call struck and killed a woman in Valley Glen late on October 31, authorities said. The crash occurred at about 11:30 p.m. by the intersection of Woodman Avenue and Bessemer Street. The woman died at the location; her identity will be made public once her family has been informed.
The patrol vehicle was en route to a Halloween party on Weddington Street in Sherman Oaks, several miles away. Police were alerted to gunfire and came upon a gathering of about 300 people. The officer was responding to a call for assistance, and the vehicle had its emergency lights and siren on.
An LAPD spokesperson said the woman had been beyond the boundaries of a marked crosswalk when the vehicle hit her. No officers were hurt. The gathering at the party was eventually broken up, and no one there was reported injured.
The department’s collision investigation unit is looking into the crash. Authorities have not provided additional information about the incident.
