Fatal 405 Crash Closes Northbound Lanes in Sherman Oaks

On November 1, 2026, a fatal multi-car collision shut down every northbound lane of the 405 Freeway in Sherman Oaks. The crash was reported around 1:30 to 1:45 a.m. just south of the 101 Freeway, and the California Highway Patrol confirmed one person died.

At least three vehicles were involved, including a car that overturned onto its roof. The person who died was believed to have been thrown from that vehicle. Details about what led to the collision were not available.

Drivers were directed off the freeway at Ventura Boulevard while the lanes were closed. During the shutdown, another driver entered the closed area and nearly struck a firefighter working at the scene. The northbound lanes reopened a few hours later.

Reported by ABC7 Los Angeles, New York Post.
