Washington rallies past Nebraska with late touchdown and pick-six

Washington’s offense struggled for most of the game, but a fourth-quarter quarterback change helped the Huskies turn a 7-3 deficit into a 17-10 win over Nebraska on October 31 in Lincoln, Nebraska. The teams are both 5-3 overall and 2-3 in Big Ten play.

At the start of the final period, Washington put Demond Williams Jr. in for Elijah Brown. With 1:30 remaining, Williams found Chris Lawson for a 25-yard touchdown, giving Washington its first lead. The score came after Lawson kept the drive alive with a falling sideline catch on fourth-and-18, taking a 24-yard pass while Williams was under pressure.

Nebraska quarterback Anthony Colandrea threw his third interception of the game on the next possession. Alex McLaughlin intercepted a pass over the middle and returned it 48 yards for a touchdown, extending Washington’s lead. Nebraska answered with a 42-yard John Hohl field goal with 31 seconds left, then Washington recovered the onside kick to secure the win.

The Huskies punted on eight of their first nine possessions. Their only offensive touchdown drive covered 81 yards in 12 plays. Lawson finished with 12 receptions for 155 yards, while Williams completed seven of 13 passes for 99 yards and ran for 28 yards.

Washington has won two straight after a three-game losing streak. Nebraska has lost three consecutive games by a combined 13 points. Washington hosts Penn State on November 7, while Nebraska visits Illinois on November 6.
