Skenes and Dunne Go Christmas-Themed for Halloween

Skenes wore the green outfit and yellow socks associated with Buddy, the character played by Will Ferrell in the 2003 Christmas film Elf. He also carried a plate of spaghetti, a nod to the character’s unusual taste for sweets. Dunne dressed as the Mrs. Butterworth’s syrup mascot, using a logo skirt and brown shirt to evoke the bottle.

The costumes brought a Christmas character into Halloween celebrations, even as the holiday season was just beginning. Skenes and Dunne shared photos and video of their outfits.

Skenes is in the offseason after finishing the 2026 campaign with a 10-11 record and a 3.82 ERA in 32 starts. He struck out 200 batters over 174.1 innings. His season included a strong stretch early on, followed by struggles from mid-May through September.

The pitcher is expected to begin preparing for next season, while also taking part in upcoming labor negotiations as a member of the MLB Players Association’s eight-player executive subcommittee. The league’s current collective bargaining agreement expires at midnight on December 2.
