Utah Rout Sends Cincinnati Back to the Big 12 Race
Utah struck first and controlled the game, holding Cincinnati scoreless in the opening half while building a 36-point advantage. The Bearcats had upset previously unbeaten Texas Tech the week before, but could not carry that momentum into their home game against the Utes.
Quarterback Devon Dampier passed for 260 yards and two touchdowns. Hunter Andrews caught five passes for 112 yards and two scores, while Wayshawn Parker and Daniel Bray each added a rushing touchdown. Utah converted seven of 11 third downs and averaged 7.6 yards per play.
Utah’s defense and special-teams pressure helped create the lopsided first half. Rabbit Evans scooped up a fumble and raced 51 yards to score, and Elijah Davis ran back an interception 39 yards to score. Cincinnati also missed a field goal after reaching Utah’s territory.
The Bearcats produced more after halftime. Cole Tabb rushed for 131 yards, including a 48-yard touchdown run, and Jacob Finley’s interception return for a touchdown provided a highlight for Cincinnati. The loss left Cincinnati 5-3 overall and 2-3 in Big 12 play; Utah improved to 5-0 in the conference.
Utah hosts BYU next week, while Cincinnati visits No. 18 Houston. The Bearcats have three conference losses and face a difficult path toward the Big 12 championship game.
