Georgia Beats Florida 27-8 as Gators Commit Four Turnovers

Georgia capitalized on four Florida turnovers to win the relocated rivalry game 27-8, improving to 7-1 overall and 5-1 in the Southeastern Conference. The matchup was played in Atlanta while Jacksonville’s EverBank Stadium undergoes renovations; next year’s contest will take place in Tampa Bay ahead of the series’ return to Jacksonville.

Florida quarterback Aaron Philo, back after a shoulder injury, threw two interceptions and was replaced by Tramell Jones Jr. Jones later lost a fumble that Georgia linebacker Chris Cole returned for a touchdown, putting the Bulldogs ahead 24-0 at halftime. Georgia also scored on short runs by Bo Walker and Nate Frazier.

The Bulldogs held Florida to 48 rushing yards, while recording 217 of their own. Florida running back Jadan Baugh gained 38 yards on 17 carries. The Gators had five first-half penalties for 60 yards, and Jones threw another interception in the end zone in the third quarter.

Florida ended Georgia’s shutout bid in the fourth quarter. Jones ran for a two-yard touchdown, and Baugh threw a two-point conversion pass to Dallas Wilson. Georgia added a field goal, then stopped Florida on fourth down to close out the win. Coach Kirby Smart praised the rivalry’s tradition. Georgia quarterback Gunner Stockton completed 13 of 23 throws for 101 yards; Smart said the team needed to improve its passing game.

Florida, now 5-3 and 3-3 in SEC play, hosts Oklahoma next week. Georgia travels to face No. 12 Mississippi, seeking to build on the win after its recent loss to Auburn.
