Broncos Place RJ Harvey on Injured Reserve With Knee Injury

Harvey injured his knee during practice this week. He was limited on Thursday and did not practice Friday, then was ruled out for the Chiefs game before the Broncos announced his move to injured reserve on Saturday. The team’s coach, Sean Payton, had declined to give an update on Harvey’s outlook the previous day, saying, “No status now.”

The short-term designation means Harvey will miss at least four games. With Denver’s Week 10 bye, he is expected to be out for five weeks in total, missing games against Kansas City, Carolina, Las Vegas and Pittsburgh. His earliest possible return is December 6 against the Miami Dolphins. The injury was described as serious enough for injured reserve, but not as season-ending.

The move leaves Denver with fewer options at running back. J.K. Dobbins has 87 carries for 293 yards and three touchdowns this season, while rookie Jonah Coleman is also expected to take on a significant workload. The Broncos promoted safety Taylor Rapp to the active roster and called up tailback Cody Schrader and offensive-line player Gavin Ortega from the practice squad.

Harvey, a second-year player, has 24 carries for 87 yards and a rushing touchdown through six games this season. He has also caught 25 passes for 217 yards and a touchdown. In 2025, he led Denver with 12 total touchdowns, including seven rushing scores and five receiving scores.
