Sheppard Sets Duke Records in Rout of Boston College
Duke running back Nate Sheppard scored five times on the ground as the Blue Devils defeated Boston College 47-2 inside Durham’s Wallace Wade Stadium on October 31. The sophomore carried 20 times for 97 yards, with three of his touchdowns coming in the first half.
Sheppard became the first player in Duke history to rush for five touchdowns in one game. His 14 rushing scores this season are a school record, and his 18 touchdowns overall also set a program mark.
Duke took a 27-2 lead into halftime after quarterback Walker Eget connected with Jeremiah Hasley for a five-yard touchdown. Eget passed for 201 yards. Hasley also made several significant catches as Duke’s offense built its lead.
Boston College’s only points came on a 100-yard return by Carter Davis after Duke’s extra-point attempt was blocked. The Eagles finished with 213 yards of offense, while Duke recorded six sacks and 11 tackles for loss. The Blue Devils have won two straight and are 3-2 in ACC play; Boston College fell to 4-4 overall and 2-3 in the conference.
Duke will visit N.C. State next Saturday. Boston College is scheduled to host Florida State.
