Fire Displaces 11 at Dorchester Multifamily Home
Boston firefighters responded shortly before 8 a.m. on October 31 to a fire at a three-story multifamily residence at 24 Kerwin St. The blaze spread through all three floors and reached the side of a neighboring house, officials said. The Boston Fire Department estimated damage at more than $500,000.
Eight adults and three children were displaced. Firefighters rescued eight people with ground ladders from behind the residence, said Harry Brienza, the district fire chief. Red Cross workers went to the scene to help residents who had to leave their homes.
Resident Kevaugh Davis said his son alerted him to smoke in a bedroom. Davis found a mattress in his mother’s room on fire, called 911 and warned neighbors upstairs. His mother was not in the room. The three people taken to the hospital were expected to make full recoveries. Officials have yet to determine what started the blaze.
