In-N-Out Weighs Expansion Into More States
In-N-Out is considering further expansion east, but President Lynsi Snyder said the company is focused on maintaining its standards rather than growing quickly. In a conversation with television host Terry Crews marking the chain’s 78th anniversary, Snyder pointed to Arkansas, Mississippi and Oklahoma as possible locations. Another account of her remarks also named Texas among the states under consideration.
Snyder said the company wants to ensure each new restaurant is in the right setting and that its workforce continues to uphold its values. She said expansion would look different if she felt the company was losing its way, and described the chain’s growth as steady rather than rapid.
The family-owned business has 445 restaurants across 10 states. It expanded into Tennessee last year, its easternmost market so far, and now has five locations there, with another listed as coming soon. Washington state opened its first In-N-Out in August 2025.
New Mexico is scheduled to become the company’s 11th state, with an Albuquerque restaurant planned by 2027. Snyder said California would remain central to the business, noting that the company has additional locations planned in the state. In-N-Out has not franchised its restaurants, and Snyder said she values the chain’s limited presence, which she feels makes it special.
