Paul Bettany Injured His Eye While Filming VisionQuest
Published October 31, 2026. Paul Bettany said he burst about 10 blood vessels in his eye while performing a scene for the Disney+ series VisionQuest. The injury left his eye red for around two weeks, he said during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
Bettany was acting as though a device on his head was affecting his brain and said he pushed the performance too far. He called the experience a lesson in restraint. Kimmel showed the audience an image of the injury.
Bettany said production continued filming and suggested removing the injury from the finished scenes may have been costly. He joked that the actor playing Vision is short-sighted and cannot see clearly without glasses.
In VisionQuest, Bettany returns as the rebuilt android Vision, whose memories have been restored but whose feelings about them remain uncertain. The character lives quietly in a Scottish pub and enters a mental space populated by AI personalities that help him process information and understand humanity.
The eight-episode series continues the television story that began with WandaVision and was followed by Agatha All Along. VisionQuest’s season finale is scheduled for November 10.
