Magic Rally Past Raptors to Open NBA Cup Play
The Magic recovered from Wednesday’s defeat in Toronto by shooting 18 of 34 from three-point range in the rematch. Bane made six of his 12 three-point attempts and recorded a season high in scoring. Wagner’s 11 assists were a season best, and his 26 points matched the team high with Bane’s total distinction aside: Wagner scored 26.
Wendell Carter Jr. added 20 points, and Anthony Black finished with 17 points and 10 assists. Orlando went 25 for 29 at the free-throw line, compared with Toronto’s 11 for 15.
Scottie Barnes scored 41 points for the Raptors, fouling out after setting career highs in field goals made and shots attempted. Immanuel Quickley contributed 17 points, while Collin Murray-Boyles had 15. Toronto played without Kawhi Leonard, who was sidelined with swelling in his left knee.
Orlando held an 95-88 advantage after three quarters, but Toronto moved ahead 102-100 on a Quickley three-pointer with 8:38 left. Black put the Magic back in front with a three, beginning a 13-4 run that helped Orlando secure the win. Bane and Toronto’s RJ Barrett each received a technical foul after a brief first-quarter altercation.
The Magic host Boston on Sunday. Toronto begins a four-game road trip against the Los Angeles Lakers that day.
