Man Arrested After Clayton County Officer Was Dragged by Car

Christopher Lovett was arrested on October 30 after a multi-agency search, Clayton County police said. He is accused of dragging a police officer with his car during a traffic stop in Riverdale on October 21. The agencies credited with helping locate and arrest him were the U.S. Marshals Service, South Fulton Police Department and Clayton County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident happened around 2:15 p.m. at the junction of Garden Walk Boulevard and Medical Center Drive. Investigators said the driver accelerated and drove away while the officer was alongside the vehicle. The officer received care at Grady Memorial Hospital for injuries that were not life-threatening and was later released. Police said the officer continues to recover.

Police located and impounded the vehicle shortly after the incident, while Lovett fled the area. Authorities issued a wanted bulletin describing him as dangerous. The road closures near Charles R. Drew High School were temporary; the school did not enter lockdown, and the incident did not involve any pupils or employees.

Police have not publicly identified the injured officer. Legal proceedings are underway, but authorities have not detailed the formal charges Lovett faces.
