Atco Man Charged in Fatal Voorhees Bicycle Hit-and-Run
Tart, of Atco, faces charges including leaving the scene of a fatal crash, risking an injured victim and altering the evidence. Authorities say he was driving a Ford Fusion when it struck Rahman around 1:15 a.m. on October 24, while Rahman was riding his bicycle on Route 73. Rahman, who lived in Berlin, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators allege that Tart covered the car after the collision and had its windshield replaced. He was lodged at the Camden County correctional facility and is awaiting a detention hearing in Superior Court.
Police say a dark-colored midsize SUV also hit Rahman and fled. Investigators are looking for the vehicle, which may be a Honda Pilot. Rahman’s son said his father regularly rode the route to and from his job, working as a dishwasher at Voorhees' Harmony Diner.
Rahman had immigrated from Bangladesh more than a decade ago and settled in Berlin with his wife in 2014, his son said. He is survived by his wife, son, daughter and six grandchildren. Authorities and the family are asking anyone with information about the crash to contact investigators.
