BYU Still Controls Its Big 12 Championship Path
BYU’s 6-1 overall record and 3-1 conference mark leave it among five teams near the top of the Big 12 standings, despite its loss to UCF. Utah leads at 4-0 in league play; Arizona, Texas Tech and Oklahoma State are also 3-1. Houston is close behind at 3-2.
The remaining schedule gives the leading teams several chances to affect one another’s title hopes. BYU visits Utah on November 7, while Arizona and Texas Tech meet, and Oklahoma State hosts Texas Tech on November 14. Arizona and Utah also face each other. Utah has three road games among its next four, including trips to Cincinnati and Arizona.
BYU’s Utah matchup is central to its path. If the Cougars win their remaining games, including that contest, they would secure a place in the Big 12 title game, according to the reported scenarios, through a combination of the results among contenders and BYU’s head-to-head wins. The account also says a BYU team that wins out would reach the College Football Playoff. Houston, meanwhile, has four games left and could enter the title-game picture if it finishes strongly and benefits from favorable tiebreakers.
