Miami Woman Accused of Unlicensed Post-Surgery Treatments
Investigators say Accius, 38, promoted recovery massages and body-care services on Instagram. A woman told investigators she found Accius through an online advertisement and paid $275 using Cash App for three massage appointments after cosmetic surgery.
The woman said Accius reopened the patient’s surgery cuts to release fluid while providing the treatments. She also reported prolonged numbness in her fingers after two massages. Investigators said videos on Accius’ Instagram showed her giving lymphatic massages, tending to exposed wounds, taking out surgical drains and putting on medical dressings.
The woman later paid for three more sessions, but found Accius had moved from her business location before the final appointment. When she requested her money back, Accius told her she would stop offering services, investigators said.
A Florida Department of Health records check found Accius did not have the nursing or massage therapy licenses officials said were required. Investigators located her at a Miami home and arrested her on October 29. After being advised of her rights, she declined to answer questions without an attorney.
Accius is charged with illegally providing health care and massage therapy without authorization. A judge determined there was sufficient cause to proceed and set her bond at $3,000.
