Lions’ Protection Faces Vikings’ Blitz in NFC North Showdown

Minnesota brings a defense allowing a league-low 12.3 points per game to Ford Field, where Detroit is averaging 30.7 points. The Vikings and Lions meet on November 1 at 1 p.m. EST, with the division race adding weight to a matchup between the unbeaten Vikings and a Detroit team that has won two straight.

A central test will be whether Detroit can protect Jared Goff against Minnesota’s aggressive pressure. The Vikings have blitzed on 68.4% of opponents’ dropbacks, the NFL’s highest rate. They sacked Goff five times in each of last season’s meetings, and he completed 44.8% of his passes against their blitzes in 2025, throwing two interceptions without a touchdown.

Goff has thrown 14 touchdown passes and no interceptions this season, completing 67.3% of his throws for 1,788 yards. Minnesota has forced 11 turnovers and leads the league with a plus-7 turnover differential. Detroit’s offense also features running back Jahmyr Gibbs, wideouts Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams, and tight end Sam LaPorta.

The Vikings’ offense has scored four touchdowns over its last five games, averaging 1.5 offensive touchdowns per game. Quarterback Kyler Murray said he remains confident and wants the team to finish drives with touchdowns rather than field goals. Minnesota has allowed 18 sacks, while Detroit has recorded 21; Murray has been sacked 12 times in five starts. The Vikings beat the Lions in both meetings last season, including a 23-10 win on December 25.
