Five Pallets of Beef Stolen From Philadelphia Truck
The theft happened shortly after 4 a.m. along the 5200 block of Devereaux Avenue. Investigators say the thieves cut the trailer’s rear padlock and removed the frozen beef, valued at about $10,000.
The driver woke after hearing movement outside and saw people taking the cargo. He recorded video on his cellphone that captured the vehicles used to leave: a charcoal Nissan four-door and a pair of black SUVs. No arrests have been announced, and the investigation is ongoing.
The theft was Philadelphia’s second reported cargo heist of the week. On Tuesday, thieves took about 3,000 pounds of frozen crab from a truck in Southwest Philadelphia while its driver slept. Investigators have not determined whether the two thefts are connected.
Police have urged trucking companies to take precautions, including using hardened steel locks and parking in well-lit, more public places.
