Buck and Aikman Call Cowboys’ Win Amid Talk of Booth Tension
The Dallas Cowboys beat the Philadelphia Eagles 38-21 in Philadelphia on October 26, with Joe Buck and Troy Aikman calling the Monday Night Football game for ESPN. Speculation about tension between the longtime broadcast partners followed them into the booth, but their commentary and postgame appearance showed moments of ease, including an exchange of jokes about former Cowboys receiver Michael Irvin.
Buck and Aikman have worked together for about 25 years. Buck has signed an ESPN extension through the 2032 season, while Aikman’s current contract is in its final season. Aikman has said he hopes to continue broadcasting, but has not confirmed what comes next. He has also expressed interest in other work, including a possible role with an NFL team.
The partners have not publicly addressed reports of a rift. Buck has said they keep personal matters separate, and that he cares for Aikman like a brother. Reports of friction have focused on Buck’s extension and Aikman’s uncertain contract situation. The two are scheduled to call ESPN’s first Super Bowl broadcast in February.
Aikman became emotional during the broadcast while remembering David Moulton, his longtime spotter, who died after a six-year cancer battle. Aikman said Moulton had been a fighter and that his death left a deep loss for many people. He also assessed the game afterward, cautioning against overstating Dallas’ win against a Philadelphia team he described as battered.
