Waddle’s Status Uncertain for Broncos-Chiefs Game
On October 28, Jaylen Waddle’s availability for the Denver Broncos’ matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs was still unclear after he aggravated a chest injury in Sunday’s 30-16 win over the Arizona Cardinals. His status will depend on how he progresses in practice this week, with the team scheduled to provide an injury update Friday.
Waddle was hurt with less than five minutes remaining when he fumbled a pitch on a reverse and went to the ground to recover the ball. Arizona’s Josh Sweat landed on him. Waddle left for the locker room and did not return; he made 48 yards on four receptions from seven passes thrown his way.
The injury is a recurrence of a chest problem that limited Waddle in practices the previous week. He has 26 catches for 276 yards and a touchdown this season, including a 138-yard game against Jacksonville. Denver acquired him from Miami during the offseason, surrendering a first- and third-round selection in the draft.
The Broncos have won three straight and enter the week 5-2, one game behind the 5-1 Chiefs. Kansas City beat Denver 31-10 in their Week 1 meeting. A win Sunday would strengthen the Chiefs’ hold on the AFC West, while a Broncos victory would keep their streak going and put them in position to challenge for the division lead. Waddle’s status could affect Denver’s passing options against its division rival.
